Bookends - References On Tap is a comprehensive reference management app that offers a range of features for searching and organizing references. With access to popular databases such as PubMed, PubMed Central, Google Scholar, JSTOR, LOC, arXiv, and Web of Science, this app allows users to find, display, and import reference information and PDFs of full articles (with proper access privileges).

The app provides the ability to search your personal reference library, organize references into groups (both static and smart), and easily email references in a suitable format for reading or importing into desktop reference management applications. It offers advanced search capabilities, such as Boolean searches and the option to search for Full Text or Free Full Text. Users can also recall recent searches for convenience. Please note that PubMed occasionally mislabels restricted Full Text articles as Free Full Text, but References On Tap correctly identifies such cases. Full Text access is subject to appropriate access privileges.

References On Tap has been highly recommended by various reputable sources. It was included in the Online LPN to RN guide to Terrific Apps Every Nurse Should be Using and was listed as one of the "Top 5 Apps you will really use" by Practice Magazine, Optometrists Association Australia. Additionally, Dr. Joel Topf hailed it as "PubMed On Tap for the iPhone: the National Library of Medicine in your pocket". MacTech.com reported that the School of Medicine was going to study the effectiveness of iPads in education, with References On Tap being a notable app in this regard. Lastly, The UWTLIT Weblog stated that the application is an excellent example of how the iPhone can revolutionize user interaction with academic databases.

Syncing across iOS devices is made convenient through iCloud integration. With this feature, users have full access to their reference libraries and attachments even when they are on the go.

The free version of References On Tap has certain limitations, such as a maximum of 20 search results, a storage capacity of 50 references in the local database, watermarked PDF annotations, and the display of advertisements. To enjoy unlimited access without these restrictions, users can make an in-app purchase.

In addition to the standard version, there is a Pro Features Yearly Subscription available for $4.99. This subscription offers cloud synchronization of references and attachments, but it must be renewed on a yearly basis. The renewal can be managed in the iOS settings, specifically under "iTunes & App Store" and "Subscriptions". If the subscription is not renewed, the Pro Features will be disabled.

It is important to note that there is no option to cancel the current subscription during the active subscription period.

References On Tap is available for purchase at $4.99 for the Standard Version and $4.99 for the Pro Features Yearly Subscription.
